Misguided Parents

Why is it that parents rush in to think, speak and act for their children when the latter are capable of doing it for themselves? Parents tend to smoothen life's journey for their offspring by making sure that kids live it right based on their (parents) own experiences. In the mad rush to protect their children from the big, bad world, they are always on call to soften the blows, cushion the falls, wipe away the tears even before it all happens. There is no room today for the old adage ," Experience is the best teacher". And thus the spoilt brat syndrome rears it ugly head even while the doting parents are all praise for the little one's extreme antics and uncontrollable tantrums. Children today should not hear the bad word 'no'. They must not be refused anything because when they grow up, the rest of the world too will bow down to their every whim and fancy!
Today's young parents are full of the child psychology jargon and hype that having a baby, creates. They are gushing with the expectancy of doing an excellent job of child rearing and it is for this reason that they practically read all the parenting books available on the stands and continually browse the parenting websites which make them feel modern and on par with the rest of the yuppie parenting community. The mothers know exactly what to do because they have done their homework; and if nothing else works, they always have a handy pediatrician's mobile phone number to fall back on. Young and inexperienced fathers like other average men, simply depend on their wives as they know better; they follow instructions faithfully even going to the extent of repeating parrot-like the technical details of burping the baby, describing special nappies for tiny boys etc.
They are spewing parenting and baby literature left, right and all over to whoever has the patience to listen, basking in their own smug knowledge that they are perfectly perfect in bringing up their children as well rounded personalities even while their child spits on their audience for it! Parental instincts have been practically brushed aside to make room for book advice.
Yuppie parents, please wake up to the fact that you are only messing up your children by not letting them experience the world and all it creations, living or dead, on its own terms! Save yourself the regrets; aspire to reduce the number of times that you may have to moan in anguish,"where did we go wrong?".
